About Mechanical Department

The Department of Mechanical Engineering has been in existence since the inception of the institute (1997) with an objective of fulfilling requirements of mechanical & allied industries and society at large. The Department started with an initial intake of 60 students in UG Programme (B.Tech.). The Department has started its first PG Programme (M.Tech.) in Thermal Engineering (TE) with an intake of 18 in the year 2010 and another PG Programme in Advanced Manufacturing Systems (AMS) in the year 2012 with an intake of 18. The current intake for the UG Programme is 60 and for PG Programme in Advanced Manufacturing Systems (AMS) is 18. The Department was accredited twice by National Board of Accreditation (NBA), New Delhi. The Department is well known for its dedicated and experienced team of faculty & supporting staff. The Students of the department gain required skill sets through innovative teaching and experiential learning, which make them, develop potential solutions for the problems of the Society. The Students of the Department continuously develop innovative project prototypes under the supervision of their faculty members and engage in presenting their work in innovation fairs and in other prestigious technical institutions. The Department offers skill / job-oriented courses, certification in emerging technologies, internship, field / industrial visits along with mandatory non-credit courses in humanities and life sciences in the curriculum for the holistic development of the student. In-addition to the curriculum, students are encouraged to pursue certification through NPTEL / Swayam/edX / Coursera etc. Student clubs were introduced in the department, which offer infinite number of opportunities for student leadership and participation beyond the classroom setup. Four student technical clubs: 3D Printing Club, Design thinking Club, Robotics Club and Automotive club have been conducting various activities in the department. Apart from academics, the students of the department actively participate in Sports/Games & other extra-curricular activities and represent the affiliating University in the inter-state tournaments.

The Department has established “Applied Robotic Control” Lab in Association with Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC) & European Centre for Mechatronics (ECM)-APS GmbH Aachen, Germany for conducting international internships in the emerging area: Industrial Automation and Robotics. The Alumni of the Department were settled in reputed Government and public sector undertaking Organizations, Multi-National Companies and some of its Alumni have grown as entrepreneurs.
