An enriching Alumni Student Interaction Session was conducted in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, during which our distinguished alumni shared valuable insights on careers in Marine Engineering. The alumni provided clear guidance on how to become a Marine Engineer, including information on HIMT and GME courses and their entrance examinations. They explained how to identify genuine shipping companies using RMF numbers and cautioned students on avoiding fraudulent agencies.
The session also covered various types of marine engines, their specifications, nomenclature, and the basic knowledge required to understand engine operations. The alumni defined Marine Engineering in a practical manner and gave a detailed overview of major ship components and their functions. In addition, they shared practical advice on making quick and effective decisions, handling high-pressure and high-responsibility situations on board ships, and the importance of building technical and professional skills for a successful career at sea.
Overall, the session was highly informative and motivating, helping students gain a realistic understanding of the marine industry and the competencies required to excel in this challenging and rewarding profession.
